(1) The government in the time of Therese Rodriguez the led by Former President Marcos was chaotic and unfair, according to page 24, paragraph 1. "Sixto Carlos (a leading figure in the SDK) drew a pyramid showing how the few on top were ruling over the many, and described the three evils of Philippines Society: Feudalism, imperialism, and fascism." It means that they look at the Philippines Society before as Pyramid which they are in the lowest and the officials and rich people are on the top of them. During that time the communist and activist grows, they were against of the government, to the point that it resulted a police riot, with cops bruttaly attacking students with truncheons and tear gas in page 24, paragraph 2. It also the time were the Martial Law was declared by former President Marcos, were many of them suffered and hopeless.
While the government in the present, based on what I observed, it is far from before, way better than the governing before because somehow, the government made a programs to help the Filipino, especially, in financial assistance and education assistance, and more. But despite of these, I can say that the government today was chaotic too like before, because the politicians are fighting each other just for their own image and position. They are thirsty for position and money.
The similarities of the government before and now is that, it cannot avoid that there are some officials or politician who is corrupt and only mind their own position and desired for power. The government now and before's problems are the same, those corrupt are the problem of the Philippines. There are times also that, when the victim is poor and the suspect is on top, they cannot get the proper justice that they deserve. The pyramid is still there.
(2) Therese Rodriguez is a brave woman. Because even though she's under Catholic School that time, she joined different organization as an activist just to fight for their rights, to fight against the government to hear their voice. She joined KDP New York chapter and became a member of the Chapter Executive Brand, Therese works' leads the organizing of Philippine National Day, Anti-Martial Law Alliance (AMLA). And based on page 23, Therese built community coalition. She's following the assassinations of KDP activist, Silame Domingo and Gene Viernes in Seattle, and more work of Therese. With these, Therese Rodriguez shows her support and her quality of fighting for something or affirmation. She's one of the woman who has a fighting spirit to fight for what she desired.
(3) While I am reading the "To Teach the Masses a Love for Bach, Chopin, and Beethoven" by Therese Rodriguez, I was amazed of how brave they are for fighting against the government. Especially when they lay down on the bridge in ParaƱaque, along with other activists, to block the traffic on page 25, paragraph 2. Even if I am just reading her work, I can feel and see their fighting spirit. But some how, I felt sad because they need to do such things just to hear their voice and get the attention of the government and people who rules them, just to fight for their aims. I felt sad also because they experienced that chaotic governing, especially when the martial law was declared by former President Marcos. But at the same time, I am proud for standing for their desired, and ideal world. The work of Therese Rodriguez made me realized how important to know how to stand for your rights, and to fight if you want a change.
