The poem entitled "The Coconut Poem" was written by Jose Garcia Villa when he was 17 years old he's a filipino poet literary critic, short story writer, and a painter. he was awarded the national artist of the philippines title for literature in 197. jose studied at colombia university in the year 1941 to 1942; university of mexico year 1932. he was born on august 5 1908 and died february 7 1997 at the age of 88 years old in New York, New York United States.
The coconut poem shocked a conservative heavily Roman Catholic society with its sexual imagery. The image that the speaker wants to tell is that he compares coconut with a woman he says that "the coconut have ripened" or the girl around turn into a lady given the word 'ripened' I assume that the author use the coconut fruit to describe or in compared to women's breast and nipples. For me he used the word ripen since female which their adulthood when they turned 18. The maternity of their body can be already seen and it includes the coconut which is their breast inshort they are ripened.
The coconut poem consist one stanza only. It is written in a preverse which it does not follow rhyme scheme, pattern, and etc. The author uses figurative language such as metaphor and simile as he described and compared coconut fruit to a woman's nipple or breast. The poem has an element called repetition which the author is repeating some words phrases or lines.
Congratulations!
